How the online quote works

1. Fill in the form below. Tell us what you are seeing, where on the building it is, and roughly how long it has been there.
2. Attach photos. The more we can see, the more accurate the quote — there is a guide to what to photograph below.
3. We assess it. Every enquiry is reviewed personally by our director Assef, who has more than 26 years in remedial building repairs. You will get a written response setting out the likely cause and an indicative cost.
4. Free on-site inspection if it is needed. Some faults, particularly water ingress and structural movement, cannot be diagnosed accurately from photos. If yours is one of them we will come out and look at it, at no cost.

What photos to send

This is the part that decides whether a quote is accurate or a guess. If you can, include:

• A wide shot of the whole wall, balcony or elevation. We need to see the pattern of the damage, not just the damage.
• A close-up of the crack or defect itself, straight on and in good light.
• Something for scale beside a crack — a coin, a key or a tape measure. Crack width tells us a great deal.
• The inside of the room behind the damage, if there is any staining, bubbling paint, damp or musty smell.
• Whatever sits above and below the problem — gutters, downpipes, window sills, balconies, garden beds, taps and air conditioning units. Water almost never enters where it appears.

Why we ask about the cause, not just the crack

A price to fill a crack is not a price to fix the problem. Most cracking and water damage in Melbourne buildings is a symptom of something else: ground movement, a corroded lintel, a failed waterproof membrane, blocked drainage or the wrong mortar. If that is not identified and dealt with, the repair fails and the money is wasted. So our quotes tell you what we think is happening and why, not just what we will charge.
